Wearable gadgets have made a great leap into the consumer market over the last couple of years. The most popular products in the wearable gadget arena are the “SmartWatches”. However most of these smart watches look like some geek product from the belly of a CPU and have little to no aesthetic or classy appeal to them. Owing to market demands, Hewlett Packard decided to enter the field with a bang and has announced the release of a high-tech fashion watch for later this year. The product would be engineered to tick the style box while retaining productivity. For this they team up with fashion retailer Gilt and a renowned American designer Michael Bastian.
Michael Bastian is notably known for his Luxury menswear products. According to Bastian the design of the watch was inspired from luxury automobiles, specifically from the interior features like the dashboard and trim. The watch would feature a circular dial which would be covered in 44m stainless steel case and removable wrist bands. The bands would come in variety of options: black rubber , brown leather, olive green nylon and also a limited edition. The unit would look like a traditional timepiece that sends out a powerful fashion statement.
But style is not the only thing that makes this device special. The watch is not a conventional Android or iOS gadget, but is a multiplatform device supporting a number of operating systems. The watch would be able to perform all typical smart watch functions, like receiving notifications, texting, making and taking calls, emails, and will feature user controls for connectivity, music, streaming, and weather/sports updates. HP wont rely on host OS to control the watch and a companion app would be developed to handle it. The weight, display, memory and other hardware specification have not yet been disclosed but we expect HP to engineer the product with top of the line technology.
HP’s approach may resemble that of the Pebble and the Moto 360 SmartWatch, but their product sounds to be more of an all-round product with no compromises at all. Let’s see what HP can bring us.
