Google and five more important companies are jumping on a venture to build a cable connecting Japan and the US, under the Pacific Ocean. This cable will deliver amazing Internet speeds which will take online connectivity to the next level.
The large companies that have chosen to create this consortium with Google are from the Asian market, namely China Telecom, KDDI, China Mobile and SingTel. And as it has been declared by the consortium, the cable, codenamed Faster, will be able to deliver speeds of up to 60 terabytes/ second. This is enough for sending a ton of uncompressed HD films per second which would really open up whole new Internet opportunities.
The new cable system, planned for full operations in 2016, has a greater capacity than has ever been attempted on the coasts of US such as LA, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland. And in case it escaped you before, submarine cables actually play the biggest role in the infrastructure of the internet.
