Sobe Trapped in Factory Joke Backfires

If you open a bottle of SoBe and see the message “HELP ME TRAPPED IN SOBE FACTORY,” please do not freak out. Customers all over the United States have been frantically calling local law enforcement agencies after the company’s bottle caps featured that message.

According to BuzzFeed News, SoBe printed the messages on its caps to give customers “a little smile or pause for thought.”

Instead of a humorous message, customers became worried for an unknown person’s safety.

The Pepsi owned brand was quick to apologize for the bad joke. On the company’s Facebook page a representative wrote.

“Hi there, we’re sorry that our cap slogan caused you concern, that was certainly not our intention. These sayings are intended to give our consumers a little smile or pause for thought, not offense, while they enjoy their favorite SoBe beverage.”

SoBe officials say it will take a while to remove the messages.

“We are planning on removing this cap slogan from our current rotation, however, it will take a while for existing stock to run through the market,” the company said.

The message struck a cord for some officials because imprisoned factory workers have been known to hid messages in products, hoping for someone to come and rescue them from enslaved conditions.

Here’s to hoping that SoBe workers are not forced to work 12-hours days, seven days a week, as some laborers in the US are told to according to the Trafficking Resource Center.
