Mark Zuckerberg wants our brains to directly send Facebook Status updates

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes we will one day communicate with our social media friends and followers with the help of brain-to-screen technology.

Speaking during a public Q&A session on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the company’s founder said, “You’ll just be able to think of something and your friends will immediately be able to experience it too if you’d like. This would be the ultimate communication technology.”

Facebook has spent the better part of a decade improving the way in which users communicate on the social network. From better News Feed results to Likes, Groups, and Messaging, the company is constantly in search of the next big communication medium. Zuckerberg even purchased WhatsApp for $22 billion to help ensure that the company stays ahead of communication trends in messaging and voice calling.

His company is already geared to take over the virtual reality space with the Oculus Rift headset, a product that will potentially allow users to see and experience what their friends are seeing in real time.

While telepathy might seem like a farfetched possibility pulled right from the pages of a Star Trek script, scientists are investing real time and money into the possibility. Scientists have already discovered ways to create “computer brain interfaces,” or the ability for computers to translate brain waves into software commands, and vice versa.

“There are a few important trends in human communication that we hope to improve,” Zuckerberg said. “Our lives improve as our communication tools get better in many ways.”
