The Wick translates a pretty remarkable technological leap into something tangible. If you were to look at the Wick’s silhouette, you’d probably think it was a wick-based oil or fuel lamp from the 19th century or even earlier. However, when you observe the product in reality, you realize that the wick-lamp-shaped design is just symbolic of an era gone by, and that the Wick Lamp by Graypants, is in fact, a modern lamp powered by LEDs.
The combination of primitive and modern is what’s so appealing about the Wick. Sure, it wouldn’t have the same appeal to every generation, but it still tends to bring out a very visceral level of appreciation, thanks to its old-fashioned aesthetic. The lamp comes with a plated aluminum body featuring a wide base, a ring-shaped handle, and a tall and slender ‘wick’ with LEDs at the end. “Wick is a call from our past to the future”, say the designers at Graypants. “It’s the opportunity to mindfully light the present. Combining the romance of a candle with the utility of a flashlight, Wick adapts to and fits a broad variety of contexts, from an intimate home to a bustling restaurant patio, to a warm office kitchen.”
