Although it isn’t the first curtain-operating robot we’ve heard of, Aqara’s Curtain Driver E1 hopes to tie in this unique service with their vast range of smart-home products and their Zigbee 3.0 smart home protocol. The Curtain Driver E1 is a palm-sized handy little unit that hooks onto your curtain rod, between the pleats or rings of your curtain. Equipped with powerful motors that let it move up or down the curtain rod/rail, the Curtain Driver E1 can open or close the curtains to any degree. Aside from just being an impressive feature, the Curtain Driver E1 is also exceptionally handy at helping cut energy costs and boost your overall efficiency. Not quite sure what I mean? Well, let me paint you a picture.
You draw the curtains shut at night, for obvious reasons, but every morning at 8:30am, the curtains open ever so gradually, filling your room with a wash of sunlight. Unlike the alarm that jolts you out of bed, this gradual exposure to sunlight allows you to naturally wake up feeling well rested and refreshed. You’re ready to get to work. You switch the AC on during the day because hey, we’re in a heatwave. The Curtain Drivers detect strong sunlight entering your room and draws the blinds half-shut for you. Your room’s illuminated, but isn’t hot, and your AC doesn’t have to compensate for the extra heat. You’re done with work in the evening and you’d like to watch the telly. The sun’s still out, but you tell your smart speaker or voice assistant that it’s House Of Dragons time. Your smart home automatically responds by turning on the TV, dimming the lights, and shutting the curtains. Maybe it also turns the smart microwave on and begins popping the bag of popcorn you put in it half an hour back. It doesn’t quite get easier than this, now does it?
Aqara’s Curtain Driver E1 was built to handle all those scenarios rather comfortably. Its various attachments allow it to retrofit onto a wide variety of rods or rails, and the internal motor can handle up to 12 kilograms, taking care of even thicker, heavier curtains. Wide compatibility means the Curtain Driver E1 works with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, Aqara Home, and a host of other platforms, integrating into your smart home ecosystem in a jiffy, and letting you operate it via voice commands, IoT hardware switches, the Aqara app, or even IFTTT routines/recipes. Matter support is also slated to be available via an OTA update after the official release of Matter specifications.
Each Curtain Driver E1 comes equipped with its own 6000mAh battery (that’s bigger than the ones found on most smartphones) that lets it last up to an entire year without charging. A conveniently located USB-C port on the base lets you juice your Curtain Drivers, and the Aqara Home app lets you keep tabs on all the Curtain Drivers located around your house and even open or close them remotely. I’d say that would work perfectly for any upcoming Halloween prank you may have in mind too! The Curtain Driver E1 can be grabbed for a discounted price of $80 using the promo code YANKOCDUS (which gets you a 10% + 10% combined discount). Offer valid between October 20th and 22nd.
