Most of the time we underestimate the importance of a great chair and don’t pay enough attention while selecting one. When in reality, we really shouldn’t. We spend the majority of our day sitting on chairs, whether we’re working in our home office, enjoying a meal, or simply sitting and reading a book for leisure! Hence, this piece of furniture needs to be not only comfortable but ergonomic and aesthetic as well. It needs to provide good support to our backs and butts, and also somehow harmoniously complement the rest of the furniture in our home, and our interiors. And, an innovative chair design that completely caught my attention is the Cocoon Chair by Miray Özlem ER.

Designed by Miray Özlem ER, this rather unique-looking chair takes inspiration from the transformation or rebirth process of a butterfly. Caterpillars spin a cocoon around themselves and burst out of them in the form of butterflies – undergoing an intense process of renewal or rebirth. This intriguing experience was Miray’s source of inspiration for the Cocoon Chair. The Cocoon Chair’s unique form is designed to wrap around the user’s body, forming a protective cocoon-like layer that makes you feel warm, comfortable, and cozy. This intends to create a “physical and emotional connection” between the product and the user.
The Cocoon Chair consists of a knitted seating area that is supported by a wooden structure. The chair has a unique and intriguing form that seems to flow freely, creating a furniture piece with a distinct and innovative identity. The knitted seating area of the Cocoon chair is meant to represent the silks balls that make up the cocoon of a butterfly.
The Cocoon Chair is definitely a bulky and space-consuming design that would occupy a substantial amount of space in your home, however, it functions as a pretty cozy resting spot that would hold your entire body quite comfortably – which is the entire intention behind this design. Miray’s chair designs always tend to be innovative and a class part. They harmoniously merge functionality, comfort, and aesthetics resulting in a spectacular design, and the Cocoon Chair is no exception.
